Montauk Fishing Report - Stripers and Fluke (May 15, 2006)

(Received from Captain Gene Kelly of MontaukSportfishing.com)

For those of you who live in Arizona and are unaware of the weather we had this past week: IT SUCKED! Lots of trips were blown out during the week, and then the forecast for Saturday was no good, so a lot of those trips were canceled in advance. And then we woke up to heavy fog, no wind and no rain. Needless to say that not many mommies got fishing trips for their day.

Fluke fishing is about as good as it gets, at least when the weather conditions are decent. Some real nice size fish, along with lots and lots of shorts, many only a scoach short, which bodes well for the summer fishing. Most of them will grow that extra half inch by then.

Bass are here in numbers as well, and a fair percentage of them are good sized fish. A private boat caught a forty pounder on a diamond jig, followed by a seven pound fish. The charter boats are catching them on parachutes or umbrellas, so the fish aren’t very fussy, and they are catching them in lots of different places.
