Montauk report 5/16/05 (Capt. Gene Kelly)

Well, things aren’t great, but they are definitely starting to look up. Surfcasters have been picking away at the bass for a couple of weeks now, and finally around mid-week, the boats started to catch them as well. They aren’t all getting their limits yet, but some have, with fish up to around eighteen pounds or so. The flood tide seems to be the best right now, with the ebb being a pick, pick, pick type of thing.

The fluke are all on the southside, and that isn’t red hot either, although it varies from day to day. There are some nice sized fish, but also some regulars and shorts mixed in. As with the bass, some boats are getting their limits, while others struggle.
