Not Montauk, but worth noting (June 9, 2005)
I was at a meeting with some of my colleagues this morning. We had our breakfast meeting at the Hyatt Hotel on the water in Jersey City, NJ. The hotel overlooks the Hudson and NYC. Well, we were discussing some marketing ideas and I looked out the window for a peak at the water. There were 2 guys on the pier with poles in the water.
About 10 minutes later I look out to see one of them with a bent rod and he seemed to be fighting a fish! He certainly was. The other guy grabs a long gaff (12 ft.+) ans carefully pulls up a striper. The process was reversed when the gaffer then landed his own fish.
Of course my curiousity wasn't cured by just watching this from the window of the 2nd floor. I stepped outside and walked the pier to the end for a closer look. The striped bass were in the 20lb range caught on bunker chunks. Congrats to the 2 patient fellas on the pier!
(I only hope they didn't exceed their catch limit)
