I found a great new search engine. It's not Google and not Yahoo...it's called Accoona. It gives you the ability to filter your results right from within your search page. From a marketing research perspective, it's a great engine that has some sweet tools inline. They have a European site in 7 languages and a Chinese site. I have no idea how good the Chinese site is...since I can't read Chinese :). Anyway, just thought I would post this for everyone's benefit.

I recently updated all the events pages: shark fishing tournaments, montauk fishing tournaments and general Montauk events.

Ok, I've been working with a partner on getting the fishing tackle store up and running and it's finally live! This is an online fishing store only, but the prices are excellent and the depth of products is also very good. Check it out and tell me what you think.

It's been a while since I've updated the website, but there are some really great new areas of the website. The first thing is our toolbar. When downloaded, it gives users a tool for instant access to weather, marine weather, tide information, recommended inshore/offshore fishint tackle, fishing reports and much more. Give it a try. It's easy to uninstall if you don't like it.

Added a current availability calendar. This is a short-term, floating calendar for those of you looking for a date within the next week. I'll update this as often as possible.

April 5, 2004
Updated the events page with several items.

The fluke regulations will be changing this year. The rumors are flying around and it looks like there will definately be a reduction in the amount and size of fish. The last rumor I heard was 4 fish at a minimum of 18" per person. That's a reduction from last year of 7 fish at 17" per person. I'll keep everyone updated.

Added a new "early bird" special in the specials section. You get a 10% discount on 1/2 day June Bass/Blues charters if you book by April 15.

Also added a checklist for those of you who charter us or anyone else. It's a basic list of things to remember, but could come in handy for many.

The calendar in the Yahoo Groups (part of our mailing list) is being populated nicely. I have all the current tournament dates, with reminders, and other pertinent dates.

Our 3rd auction is now live on eBay and set to close on 3/8 at 8 pm. Good luck to all the bidders!

The Fishing charter page was looking very crowded so I simplified the rates page and that is now located here

February 29, 2004

Added Do's and Don'ts section for chartering a boat. This is good reading even if you don't charter with us.

I recommend using Evite if you are interested in getting people together for a fishing trip and aren't sure who can attend. When you want to organize your group and see who's in, this is a great service. It's simple and free to use. You can check it out here EVITE

Added a link to the Montauk Fishing Buddies forum. The purpose of this forum is to help people bring groups together for fishing trips on charters in Montauk. If you are looking to hook up with a group, try it out! (The link goes offsite and I have no control over it's content.)

February 25, 2004

Added a new Events section under "About Montauk". This is a general events list (by month) of some of the things happening in Montauk throughout the year. Let me know if I missed anything.

Put some old St. Patty's Day Parade pictures in the About Montauk section. It's that time of year!

Just a note, you will see a lot of content and updates on the site this time of year. However, you won't see much in June - September, since I'll be quite busy on the water. I can say that I will frequently update the Specials page throughout the season with short-notice deals and auctions.

New 1/2 day charter on auction at eBay. Located here.

February 19, 2004

Ok, lots of changes on the site in the past week. First, I finally completed the sailing and combo fish/sail pages. Captain Mickey Bushman is ready to go. We'll be adding better pictures of the boat later when I break out the digital camera.

The Charter on auction is set to close tomorrow at 6:30 or so. There are bids and it has met reserve, so if you're interested, you better keep an eye on it. Here's a link to the ebay auction.

I spoke with the folks at the Marine Basin. The upped the entry fee for their shark tournament to $650, but it's only $600 if you register before April 1. I made all the necessary changes to the shark fishing page.

The Montauk St. Patrick's Day Parade is coming up in about 1 month. I'll be adding some more information about the parade to the About Montauk pages. If you have never been to the parade, I would highly recommend attending. The whole weekend is a really fun experience.

The Tuna page has a lot more information on it regarding species, descriptions, size, seasons and charter recommendations. Check it out...definately worth a read.

February 11, 2004

We have a new mid-week special and I'm trying it as an auction on eBay. It's a 1/2 day bass or bass/fluke trip in May. Starting bid is $200. Check out the specials page for details.

I've recently had some inquiries from individuals about setting them up with other guys or groups for offshore trips. If you are interested in doing a shared expense offshore trip with other groups or guys in August or September, let me know. I did a few last year and they worked out pretty good. Basically, I'd bring together 4 - 6 guys and everyone splits the fee and catch (and tip for the mate). If you don't get along with others, this situation is not for you.

Look soon for a Montauk Events section under "About Montauk".

February 9, 2004

Cleaned up some of the navigation and dumped the header graphic for quicker loading text headers. I'll be adding a mid-week special for May this weekend in the specials area. Added more content to fluke fishing and was thinking it would be nice if there was a tournament in montauk for fluke in May. It would be a great kickoff for the season.

If you join the mailing list and the yahoo groups part, you'll be able to view the calendar there. I will keep that current with any new confirmed tournament dates.

February 7, 2004

Well, I finally got smart and reversed this blog so the newest items are first. I don't know what I was thinking when it was set up.

Added more content to the About Montauk section. Also added a directions page for people coming for the first time. These are general directions to montauk. If you are seeking more detailed directions to our marina, the montauk marine basin, please contact me. I've also listed taxi numbers there for since it's an easy way to get around the town.

I'm expecting the sailing info to be up this week. Captain Mike Bushman will be sailing the Irish Rose from the Uilein's dock starting in late may. Amazing sunset cruises! You'll see more info by the weekend.

February 2, 2004

Began setting up the Fishing Tournaments page. I have species specific tournament information listed on some of the other pages, but this will be the general area where all tournament information is listed. I'll be including dates, type of fishing and rules when I can.

Also added the Blog page here. This page will serve as a log for site updates. If you have any suggestions for content on my site, please email me. I'd love to hear some comments.
